The Treaty of Breda was signed at the Dutch city of Breda, 31 July, 1667, by England, the United Provinces (Netherlands), France, and Denmark–Norway.

It brought a hasty and inconclusive end to the Second Anglo-Dutch War (1665–1667). The most important clause left England in possession of New Netherlands, including New Amsterdam, renamed New York, while the Dutch could definitely take Surinam and some of the nutmug islands in the East Indies.

The included postage stamps here were produced for Surinam in 1967.

The 25-cent stamp depicts the Castle of Breda, where the treaty was signed. On the 20-cent stamp one can see the early settlement of Nieuw-Amsterdam (now New York). The 10-cent stamp depicts a view on Paramaribo, the capital of Surinam, with Fort Zeelandia on the riverside.
